Why offer deposit payouts via Swish?

As society becomes increasingly digital, many consumers, particularly younger people, prefer digital payment methods. Studies by Ungdomsbarometern and KANTAR/Sifo show that more people would return their cans and bottles for recycling if they could receive their deposit digitally. Returpack has therefore developed deposit payouts via Swish.

The service is already available at Pantamera Express locations and will now also be offered as an optional payout method at in-store reverse vending machines. By offering digital deposit payouts alongside deposit receipts and donations, the aim is to improve the customer experience while increasing the collection of deposit containers.

How it works

At reverse vending machines connected to the service, Swish is available as an additional payout option. Once customers have finished returning their cans and bottles, they select Swish as their payout method. They then scan the QR code displayed on the reverse vending machine using the Pantamera app. The deposit amount is paid directly to the customer via Swish.

The payment is made from the store’s own Swish account, while Returpack reimburses the store for the deposit amount paid out.

The service is provided by Returpack’s company Pantamera Betalningslösning AB, and participation is voluntary. To use the service, the store or retail chain must have Swish Payouts, and customers must have Swish and Mobile BankID.

What retail chains and individual stores need to do

1. Check that your reverse vending machine(s) are compatible with the service. A list of compatible machines is available at the bottom of this page.
2. Register your interest at pantamera.nu/intresseanmalan.
3. Wait for Returpack to contact you.
4. Enter into an agreement with your bank for Swish Payouts, a service provided by Swish, and specify Pantamera Betalningslösning AB as the technical service provider.
5. Enter into an agreement with Pantamera Betalningslösning AB.
6. Enter into a supplementary agreement with Returpack’s return system.

Responsibilities

Returpack, in collaboration with the reverse vending machine supplier, makes the service available. The store is responsible for ensuring that the Swish account used for payouts always has sufficient funds to complete the transactions.

Compensation and fees

Returpack reimburses the store for the deposit amounts paid out as well as transaction and service fees. A one-time connection fee of SEK 1,500 per reverse vending machine applies when joining the service.

For each deposit payout via Swish, Returpack pays the store SEK 0.50. Stores that choose SEB may, through Returpack’s agreement with the bank, receive a transaction fee of SEK 0.50 per payout, making the Swish transaction cost neutral. Opening an account with SEB requires successful completion of the bank’s KYC process. Using SEB is optional, and regardless of the store’s choice of bank or Swish Payouts agreement, Returpack pays SEK 0.50 per transaction.

A service fee of SEK 0.30 per transaction is paid monthly to Pantamera Betalningslösning AB. This fee is fully reimbursed by Returpack through an additional payment, meaning there is no net cost to the store.

Summary of compensation and fees

Fees for stores:

• Service fee of SEK 0.30 per transaction, paid to Returpack.
• Swish transaction fee in accordance with the store’s agreement with its bank, paid to the store’s bank.
• One-time connection fee of SEK 1,500 per reverse vending machine, paid to Returpack.

Compensation to stores:

• Returpack pays SEK 0.30 per transaction to cover the service fee.
• Returpack pays SEK 0.50 per transaction to contribute towards covering the store’s Swish transaction fee.
